- Corrections to the book “Aníbal Troilo, Pichuco.
Conversaciones”, by María
Ester Gilio.
-
- This book
contains a noted chronology, elaborated by Julia Constenla, and
a prologue by Juan Gelman. It was published by Libros Perfil
S.A. Unfortunately, it has some mistakes. Some of them are the
following:
-
- Ché,
bandoneón (Hey, bandoneon)
- Page 18:
“Around that time, “Mi noche triste” (“My sad night”),
a tango by Cátulo’s father, was first played”
- The author of
that tango was Pascual Contursi, the father of José María.
- Noted
chronology
- Page 77: “An
‘invasion of Mexican singers’ begin. The most successful
voices are those of Jorge Negrete, Gregorio Barrios…”
- Gregorio
Barrios was Spanish.
-
- Page 81: “…
when Alberto Marino, an Italian boy whose real name was Emilio
Orlando, joined them…”
- Alberto
Marino’s real name was Alberto Marinari.
-
- Page 84: “The
formula presented by the Labour Party, formed by Juan Domingo
Perón and Jazmín Hortensio Quijano succeeded”
- The vice-presiden’s
name was Juan Hortensio Quijano. “Jazmín” was a nickname
given to him by Américo Ghioldi from “La Vanguardia” with
the intention of ridiculing him.
-
- Page 87: “…
Alberto Marino left Pichuco’s orchestra and joins Francisco
Rotundo’s orchestra…”
- Who joined the
orchestra of Rotundo after leaving Pichuco’s was Floreal Ruiz.
-
- Page 88:
“Eichelbaum’s play ‘Un guapo del 900’ is taken to the
big screen, directed by Hugo del Carril.”
-
- Page 101:
“Dr. Oscar Alende, the Governor of Buenos Aires province,
announces a project of agrarian reform, which would be initiated
under his direction…”
- Actually, this
project was never summarized.
-
- Page 103: “In
1961, Elba Berón joins Troilo’s orchestra. This was a
surprise, because up until that moment, tango orchestras had
always had male singers…”
- In 1937, Susy
del Carril sang in Juan Carlos Cobián’s orchestra. Aída Falcón
and Nelly Omar were singers in Canaro’s orchestra way before
1961.
-
- Page 106: “In
the album released that year (1963) by Víctor company, was
included the song ‘La última curda’ (‘The last
drunkenness’) by Troilo and Manzi…”
- The author of
that tango’s lyrics was Cátulo Castillo.
-
- Page 107:
“Nelly Omar causes amazement with a version of
‘Madreselva’ (‘Honeysucke’)…”
- The woman who
sang that tango with Troilo’s orchestra was Nelly Vázquez.
