Historia del Tango

“Pichuco” was one of the nicest persons I have ever met. However, on a certain occasion he heard a journalist on the radio who was expressing his unfortunate opinions about tango. Such opinions were good only to make even more deep the separation between those who admired Piazzolla as the exponent of the new tango generation, and those who liked Pichuco. This person was saying that traditional tango and its musicians had disappeared from the musical scene, and thah Piazzolla was the new “leader”. Pichuco asked to talk to him, and when he did it he told him: “You are not saying this because you are mean, you are saying this because you are stupid. If you were mean, I could talk to you and, maybe, convince you to be good. But you are stupid, and stupid people are born, grow and die, stupid.” And then, he added: “ ‘El Gato’ (Piazzolla), is a genius in doing the kind of music he does, that is vanguard tango. But what we do is also worthy. You don’t have to create more division in tango, but union.”
