In 1968, Osvaldo Pugliese had to leave his orchestra because of his health condition. In that moment, a group of musicians decided to form a sextet. The ones who were going to be part of that group were not chosen carelessly, but the older artists of the orchestra. The Tango Sextet was formed in October 1968. There was no need to look for a pianist, since Julián Plaza played both bandoneon and piano. At the beginning of their career, they performed as a sextet and as a part of Pugliese’s orchestra at the same time; but, eventually, they could not support both careers, and decided to leave Osvaldo’s orchestra in a friendly way. Tango Sextet made its debut in 1968 at “Caño 14”. During that year, they performed with Aníbal Troilo’s orchestra, Rubén Juárez, Royal Quintet, Roberto Goyeneche and many other great artists. They played at different places and were completely accepted by the audience. They are one of the most required groups for animating parties, conventions, festivals, etc. Tango Sextet is the owner of a record referred to the antiquity of its formation. In 19 years there was never a substitute, until Víctor Lavallén left the group in 1987. Its musical style focuses on a flashy kind of tango, lying on an instrumental structure which is unmistakably originated from Pugliese’s style. This sextet is, undoubtedly, one of tango symbols which, with a great sense of quality, relives the charm of the golden age of tango and puts it together with modern rhythms, a mix that fascinates all tango lovers.
