Bandoneon
player and orchestra director.
He was born on October 28th, 1907 in Buenos Aires. He studied music, violin and
bandoneon and started his career in 1925, when, as a soloist he acted in the Independencia cinema. The following year he chose to leave his career as
a soloist
and began playing in Osvaldo Fresedo's orchestra. After playing in Francisco
Paccanico's group, he formed his own group but they broke up when Miguel joined Cátulo Castillo and travelled to Spain
together to perform there. Some time later, he was back with Fresedo, and they played in EEUU. During
his entire career he had the honour
of playing with great tango artists, such as Simón Boitman, Julián Plaza,
Carlos Dante or Tito Desprobán. When he returned, he re united his group again, and called it "Orquesta de las Estrellas"
("Stars Orchestra"). Some of the musicians who were part of it were: Antonio
Ríos, Armando Pontier, Carlos Lazzan, Hector Stamponi,
Julio Ahumada, Mario Francini, Angel Bodas, Osmar Maderna, Armando Caló,
Aquiles Aguilar, Haroldo Gessaghi, Alberto Podestá, Eduardo Rovira and
others. He recorded a lot of albums for the Odeon company. He is the author of
instrumental tangos: "Milonga porteña", "Mi gaucha" (My
gaucha), "Garabito", "Todo es mentira" ("Every thing is a
lie"), "Ternuras" ("Tenderness") and "Campanita oración"
("Small praayer bell"). He also composed tangos with lyrics: "Me llamo Anselmo Contreras"
("My
name is Anselmo Contreras"), "Jamás retornaras" ("You will never come
back"), "Si yo pudiera comprender" ("If I could understand"), "Qué te
importa que te llore" ("What do you care about me crying for you"), "Dos
fracasos" ("Two failures"), "Qué faltas me hacés" ("How
much I miss you") and "Cómo le digo a mi vieja" ("How di I tell my
mother"). He died on
