Singer. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on March 10th, 1913. His real name was Enrique Inocencio Troncone. In his hometown he sang as a soloist and in the orchestras of Laurenz-Casella and Pintín-Castellanos, until in 1943 he decided to move to Buenos Aires, where he joined the orchestra of Tanturi, While he developed his career in Uruguay he used the name Enrique Ruiz, once he was in Buenos Aires, he changed it into the one that would make him popular. He recorded many tangos which deserve to be remembered: “Discos de Gardel” (“Gardel’s albums”), “Igual que una sombra” (“Just like a shadow”), “La abandoné y no sabía” (“I abandoned her and I didn’t know”), “Cuatro recuerdos” (“Four memories”), “Oigo tu voz” (“I hear your voice”) and “La uruguayita Lucía” (“Lucia, the little Uruguayan”). In 1948 he joined the orchestra of Francisco Rotundo, which he left to form the Campos-Calabró orchestra with bandoneon player Alfredo Calabró. He is the author of “Tenés que escuchar” (“You have to listen”) and “Rey del Tango” (“King of Tango”). During the last stage of his career, he sang as a soloist. He died in 1970.
