He
was Pacual Contursi's son, he was called "Katunga", he was born
in Buenos Aires on December 31st, 1911. In 1933 he worked in Stentor Radio
as a radio announcer. He was a film critic for different newspapers. He
was one of the best tango poet and his first song was "Tu
nombre" ("Your name"), written in 1933 with Raul Portolés´s
music. He composed lyrics that were related to the epoch he was living and
his style was completely different from his father's style. Father and son lived together but they had serious
problems. Several years later he collaborated with the melodic musicians of the
epoch. Some of his songs were: "Esclavo" ("Slave");
"Frio" ("Cold"). He also composed with Pichuco:
"Evocándote" ("Evoking you"); "Y no pudo ser"
("It couldn´t be"); "Mi tango triste" ("My sad
tango"); "Grisel";
"Cada vez que me recuerdes" ("Every time you remember me");
"Cristal" ("Crystal"), with Mores. Other musicians that worked with him
were: Di Sarli, Tinelli, Charlo, Lamuto, Pontier, Rodio, Fresedo and
others. His songs are about melancholy, madness, anguish, suicide and loving
despair. Contursi died on May 11th, 1972 in Capilla del
Monte, Córdoba, victim of cancer.
