He
was born on February 14th, 1891 in Tronia in Catania (Sicilia) south of
Italy. He arrived at Buenos Aires in 1896 and he lived in Almagro suburb.
In 1907 he met José Pacheco who introduced him in the theatre. In
1912 he recorded his first album with creole music and folklore.
He appeared on different films: "Santos Vega" (1916);
"Milonguita" (1922); "Rapsodia gaucha" ("Gaucha
Rhapsody) (1932); "Fortín alto" ("Tall Fortlet") (1941).
His success as tango singer started in 1922 and, as time went by, he
dedicated to writing. He composed for Edmundo Rivero "Aquel cantor de mi
pueblo" ("That singer from my town") which made him record
an album. In
the 40's he joined with Pedro Blomberg and Enrique Maciel in guitar. Some
of his succes were: "La canción de Amalia" ("Amalia's Song");
"La pulpera de Santa Lucía" ("Santa Lucía´s grocer"); "Los
jazmines de San Ignacio" ("San Ignacio Jessamines"); "La china de
mazorca"; "La guitarra de San Nicolás" ("San Nicolas´s
guitar"). In 1948 his wife died and this situation made him sing for
the last
time on March 28th, 1949 in Belgrano radio. On July 26th, 1967 died
Ignacio Corsini.
