Pianist, composer and director. He was born in Adrogué, Buenos Aires, on November 2nd, 1912. He started his musical studies at the age of ten, with teacher Guillermo Olson. At first he showed a preference for bandoneon, but in 1930 he was already sitting at a piano in a dance academy. In 1932 he played with Anselmo Aieta and two years later with Graciano de Leone. He was the pianist in Daniel Alvarez´ group, with whom he later formed the duet Alvarez-De Angelis. He made his debut with his own orchestra at the “Marzotto” café in 1941, accompanied by singers Héctor Morea and Floreal Ruiz. With the last one, De Angelis recorded his first album. Amongst all the versions he recorded, many of them show his style such as: “Quien más, quien menos” (“Almost everyone”), “Lunes” (“Monday”), “Marinero” (“Sailor”), “Gloria” (“Glory”), “Cómo nos cambia la vida” (“How life changes us”) and “Almagro”. Besides being a remarkable pianist and a unique director, Alfredo De Angelis was also a talented composer, as some of his works show: “La pastora” (“The shepherdess”), “Alelí” (“Winter gilliflower”), “Mañanita Linda” (“Nice morning”) and “El taladro” (“The drill”), which he dedicated to his favourite soccer team, Banfield Club. Vocalists had a very important part in De Angelis´ orchestra, and, undoubtedly, the most remembered ones were Carlos Dante, Julio Matel and Oscar Larroca.
