It is incredible that after 65 years of Carlos Gardel's death there are still different opinions about his birth place. The more acceptable hypothesis (taking into acount some proofs) is that he was born on December 11th in Toulouse, France. To prove this, some documents of the San Jose de las Grav hospital had been presented, which establish this information.  Another important document that certificates his nationality is the alographic will that Gardel left, where he
asserted that he was French and Berta Gardes' son. The strange thing is that Gardel, when alive, always assured to be Uruguayan with Artentine citizenship. Some people said that the documents belong to another person and the testament is an excellent forgery. The only thing that people do not do is an exhaustive analysis of the calligraphy, the writing age, etcetera. Up until now everything is based on supositions, testimonies and photographs. What is really true is that the
documents and the will have been considered authentic by the Argentinian and Uruguayan authorities, accordig to the law Gardel was French. The only people who could help us to find an answer to this problem
are Gardel and His Mother but both of them are not here to help us in this subject, so we decided, after talking for a long time, to keep it to the readers' criterion. What is true, and nobody can discuss it, is that Gardel is the tango symbol, with his deep vioce, his smile and singing "Mi Buenos Aires querido, cuando yo te vuelva a ver, no habra mas penas, ni olvido...". Nobody forgot him, Buenos Aires, The "Tango",and we , the "Tangueros" who have him in our hearts as a symbol of Buenos Aires.
